PreSchool-Grade 1-In these companion titles, Parr celebrates characteristics of mothers and fathers, and points out differences. For instance, "Some daddies teach you how to walk Some daddies teach you how to ride a skateboard"; "Some mommies fly kites Some mommies fly planes." The simple texts are accompanied by joyful, childlike illustrations done in vibrant colors, with faces that are yellow, tan, blue, purple, and other hues; figures and objects are outlined with thick, black lines. Parents of both genders are shown working at home and holding cleaning supplies. A few pages share the same text, for example, "All daddies [or mommies] like to watch you sleep!" The books close with the statement that all mommies [or daddies] "love to kiss and hug you" and "want you to be who you are!" While these titles do not overtly address single-parent households and nontraditional families, Parr allows youngsters to see the similarities that many families share by recognizing differences.

I have several of Todd Parr's books. My 2 year old and 5 year old both love them. My 2 year old loves the funny pictures and fast pace. My 5 year old just feels great after we read them. They are full of silly lessons that make kids feel important.

Todd Parr books are so colorful and have great messages attached to them. This book does not disappoint. The pictures are simple and vibrant which really caught my daughter's attention. The message attached is great because it shows diversity among mothers. I recommend all of his books.

Great combination of economics and romance

In this third novel, the series really shines; we now have a general understanding of Holo and Lawrence, so no more text is necessary for character introduction. The story within this book describes an economic battle between Lawrence and a rival, intertwined with the continually developing relationship between the two main characters. This all comes together in a well-executed manner, and it offers a compelling, enjoyable conclusion. If only it wasn't another six months until the next release!

The tail of Holo and Lawrence continues...

Isuna Hasekura's skill as an author seems to age like fine wine, which is to say that each volume he releases his storytelling improves greatly. I believe after reading this volume it has shown me how skilled he is as an author to pull off previous volume.

By previous statement, what I mean is that volume three gave a sense of urgency and fast-pace, but this time around the story goes at a much slower pace. I believe this is more due to the fact that Holo and Lawrence are getting accustomed to their new understanding of each other's feelings.

The story begins with Lawrence and Holo out on the road travelling to their next destination. Diana from volume 3 has mentioned there was abbot who collected pagan legends from all over the world, and this would be the person they seek out here in volume 4 to find out more about the town of Yoitsu (Holo's home). They arrive in the small town of Tereo to find out more information as to the whereabouts of the abbey, but they are soon confronted with yet another issue that only serves to hold back any progress of Holo finding out what happened to Yoitsu. Will Lawrence and Holo once again outwit their opponent(s), or will fate finally catch up with them?

This volume also confronts an issue that has worried Lawrence since the ending of volume one. One that Lawrence fears the most about facing on his travels with Holo. You'll have to pick up this volume to find out what happens!

Beautiful Illustrations

If you are a fan of the Alice manga OR game series, this book is a must have. For me personally, having never had the chance to play any of the games, and relying mostly on the manga to get info about the characters and routes, this book was very helpful.

It focuses on one particular game, Alice in the Country of Diamonds, and has extensive character profiles, outfits, and illustrations not before released over here in the US. There are two bonus manga "chapters" at the end of the book, the first focusing on Alice and Sydney Black, a character introduced in the Country of Diamonds game (think of an anti- Peter White), and the second is a story about her and the Bloody Twins.

The illustrations and character bios are in full color, and beautiful to look at.

Throughout the books are commentary and interviews with the main illustrator for the Alice games, which are very interesting to read.

All in all, a good item to add to the collection of an Country of Hearts fan!!

I liked the story, still don't understand how animals in far away places are affected by radio waves. The biggest problem I had with this book is the price is not worth the 100 pages. I didn't realize that "Bookshots" meant short story. I thought I was getting a regular James Patterson book, good, fast read, with short chapters. Which is what I got, only in 1/3 the usual book.

But I just couldnt take this seriously. I loved the first book, and enjoyed the movie but this was just too over the top. So much going wrong so quickly over and over again . . . I just plain got too tired to keep reading.

A weekend bender and we get a book

I really hate to write bad reviews and I am a big fan of James Patterson, but this one was a stinker. It may be my own fault. I thought I was buying a book but apparently the "Bookshots" are short novellas about 3.5 hours long. Not much time for plot or background.

The first book was not very good. We have a hero called OZ that is supposed to be a genius but usually acts like a 12-year-old with raging hormones. He doesn't have a lick of common sense. In the first book he discovers that animals are turning on humans and killing them. So, what does he have for a pet? A damn adult chimpanzee, the kind that eats the face off a pet owner every few years according to the news. He asks his neighbor and his ex-girlfriend to feed the beast, you can figure how that turns out. The most disappointing part of that book was that OZ discovers how to stop the problem, less use of electronic devices and petro-based engines. It works for a short while, but everybody wants their smart phones so they return to usual and at the end of that book the world is under attack.

In book two the world is hanging on by a thread. Wait a minute, if there are less people using cars, airplanes and phones, and they are all hiding in protected homes, shouldn't that make the problem go away? Apparently not. Maybe they forgot the first book. OZ is still an idiot and while the entire earth is on the verge of extinction he worries about his wife and child and even goes AWOL for 48 hours when he could be working on a cure. God, he pissed me off. The wife and child are taken by a cult. We never hear a thing about them or how they were rescued, just a short narrative saying "we got them back." Good. I did not want to hear. We are trying to save millions of people and I have no time to worry about one female and child. Coyotes attack his car on the highway, jump on top and surprisingly stay. One snaps at a tire. If a coyote got a tooth into a tire at 60 mph wouldn't he be thrown 50-75 feet at a minimum? Next, we hear that human are going feral, losing part of their brains and reverting to a Neanderthal condition. But, Neanderthals had a culture, they were not just mindless killers. In fact, these humans are going wild, attacking everyone, have super strength and super speed and want to kill all humans. Why? I don't know. Some little old lady that was a librarian now can throw a 300-pound man around? Why does the loss of brain tissue increase strength? I don't know. In some areas people are not going feral. Why? Never explained.

You get the idea. I say again that I admire Patterson's writing, but this one seems like the author sat down with a bottle of Scotch on a Saturday night and said "I think I will write a story." Not much deep thought in this one.

Kate Mulgrew is an American actress noted for her roles as Captain Kathryn Janeway on Star Trek: Voyager, Mary Ryan on Ryan's Hope, and, most recently, Galina "Red" Reznikov on Orange Is the New Black. She has performed in numerous television shows, theater productions, and movies. She is the winner of a Golden Satellite Award, a Saturn Award, and an Obie Award and has been nominated for a Golden Globe and an Emmy.

A brilliant, honest memoir

I was very excited when I heard that actress Kate Mulgrew had written a memoir, Born With Teeth. I have been a big fan of her since her days as Mary Ryan on the ABC soap Ryan's Hope, through her groundbreaking role as Capt. Janeway on Star Trek: Voyager, and in her current role as tough and literate inmate Red on Orange Is The New Black. (Red always has a book with her.)

She begins her honest, brilliant, heartbreaking memoir by talking about her large Irish Catholic family. Jiki and Ace, as her parents were called, lived in Iowa, and had a typically large brood of children. They lost two of their daughters, one to SIDS, whom four year-old Kate mistakenly believed she had killed, and a teenage daughter who died a slow, painful death.

Kate's mother was a steely, artistic, not very affectionate woman who loved books. Books were important to the Mulgrew family, and when Kate decided she wanted to be a poet because she was chosen to read her poem at a school assembly, her mother convinced her to read The White Cliffs of Dover after she read her poems, and when the nuns sobbed during her Kate's rendition, she knew she had found her calling: acting.

Born With Teeth recounts the important events and people in Kate Mulgrew's life. She stated at an appearance to launch her book that it "summed up everything that defined me", and that may be the best way to describe this stunningly written book.

If you are looking for a run-of-the-mill celebrity biography, look elsewhere. Fans of Ryan's Hope may be disappointed that there is no juicy backstage gossip here. Only producer Claire Labine and Nancy Addison (Jillian Coleridge) are mentioned, and that is because they were good friends of Mulgrew.

When Mulgrew was working on Ryan's Hope and just in her early 20s, she became pregnant. She came to the agonizing decision to give her baby up for adoption, and that decision changed and colored her entire life.

Mulgrew worked hard at her craft, and the stage was her first love, even though she had huge success on TV. The chapters on working on Mrs. Columbo (and how she got that job after turning it down) and Star Trek: Voyager give an insider's look at the incredibly long days and hard work it takes to be a major TV actress.

She wasn't as lucky in love though. After meeting a wealthy Italian man and giving up her career to be with him, she fell in love with a man in Seattle who worked on the play in which she was cast. The love of her life came later, in Ireland, where she met a man for whom she fell head-over-heels in love.

Mulgrew and her husband had two sons in two years, and trying to be a working mother and spend time with her children was a struggle, one that many women will be able to relate to. There is a chapter where she takes her sons to the Star Trek premiere,and their behavior embarrasses her, that will make any mother cringe.

Born With Teeth is so beautifully written, and so honest. Mulgrew doesn't shy away from her mistakes and her flaws. She comes from an Irish family, where stoicism was the watchword, so this makes it even more remarkable. She is not afraid to portray her warts, whether as a woman or a mother, and I find that refreshing.

It feels like each word is so carefully chosen, yet it also feels like it sprang full-blown from her head, ready to publish. The Irish are known for their eloquence, and Mulgrew clearly inherited that from her ancestors.

I know we will see her again as an actress (season three of Orange is The New Black will be available on Netflix on June 12 and season 4 will be filming soon), I hope that we will hear again soon from author Kate Mulgrew as well.

The only thing better than reading Kate Mulgrew's new book "Born with Teeth", is having it read to you by the author! No she doesn't read it she acts it! the first three chapters on disc 1 went by in a flash! her delicious voice caressing each scene with love and memories! Kate Mulgrew has a delightful command of the English language! she doesn't talk down to her audience, she doesn't need to! we know and expect her to teach us and entertain us as well!

An Intensely Honest and Intelligent Memoir

Back in February, I had a great opportunity to read an advanced reading copy of Kate Mulgrew's new memoir Born With Teeth. To say that I was impressed by it is to say nothing. I was completely floored. I admit that I had expected it to be well-written, having heard Ms. Mulgrew speak on multiple occasions at various events. And, being a fan, I could guess at some of the themes she would be certainly discussing in the book. What I did not anticipate was just how powerfully and beautifully her eloquence and intelligence translated into the written word. This is an excellent and worthy read even if you do not have emotional or intellectual attachment to her or to the characters she played. Very aptly titled Born With Teeth is an intensely honest memoir written by an extraordinary and yet very human individual. Within its pages, Ms. Mulgrew provides an exceptionally personal glimpse into some the crucial events of her fascinating and complicated life. This book will fill you with admiration for her strength, passion and tremendous courage.

Fun story and pictures

What a fun book. Super bright colors, great graphics, and what a fun storyline. My son is a beginner reader, he's 6, and needs some help with this, but for the most part young readers will know most words. This book is appropriate for all ages, but will work best for kids with a good sense of humor.

The Secret of the Unicorn was one of the first truly great Tintin adventures and Herge's personal favorite, combining a puzzling mystery with a ripping pirate yarn. The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn is the first in the series of 3D motion capture films based on the iconic character created by Georges Remi, better known to the world by his pen name, Herge, and is due for release in 2011. The film stars Jamie Bell as Tintin, the intrepid young reporter whose relentless pursuit of a good story thrusts him into a world of high adventure, and Daniel Craig as the nefarious Red Rackham. Bell and Craig are joined by an international cast that includes Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Gad Elmaleh, Toby Jones and Mackenzie Crook.

The Adventures of Tintin (also known as The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn[4] in the United Kingdom) is a 2011 American performance capture 3D film based on The Adventures of Tintin, a series of comic books created by Belgian artist Hergé (Georges Remi). Directed by Steven Spielberg, produced by Peter Jackson, and written by Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish, the film is based on three of the original comic books: The Crab with the Golden Claws (1941), The Secret of the Unicorn (1943), and Red Rackham's Treasure (1944).[5] Spielberg first acquired rights to produce a film based upon the Adventures of Tintin series following Hergé's death in 1983, and re-optioned them in 2002. Filming was due to begin in October 2008 for a 2010 release, but release was delayed to 2011 after Universal opted out of producing the film with Paramount, who provided $30 million on pre-production. Sony chose to co-produce the films. The delay resulted in Thomas Sangster, who had been cast as Tintin, departing from the project. Producer Peter Jackson, whose company Weta Digital is providing the computer animation, intends to direct a sequel. Spielberg and Jackson also hope to co-direct a third film.[6] --Wikipedia

One of the best

This Tintin book is perhaps one of the most static of all the Tintin series.The plot centres around the story of one of Haddocks ancestors and ends with Tintin having to escape from the clutches of the Bird brothers.Like many other Tintin books, it contains alot of sub-plots, including the theft of the Thompson's wallets.It is one of my favourite Tintin books.

The Secret of Good Storytelling!

Something for everyone! That's the secret.

And Hergé's "Secret of the Unicorn" fulfils that promise, launching readers of all ages on a whale of a great pirate adventure and treasure hunt with the intrepid Tintin. Accompanying our boy-reporter on his quest are the rumbustious Captain Haddock (who has never met a bottle of rum that he didn't like); and the defective detectives, Thompson and (to be precise) Thomson (identical twins whose names are NOT); their attempts to foil the notorious Bird Brothers are wildly inept, demanding the prompt interventions of Tintin and his incredible thinking dog, Snowy, who not only save the day but also find the treasure. The story, which focuses on maps and secret cyphers, is told with flashbacks, which introduce us to Haddock's ancestor, Sir Francis, and (Blue Blistering Barnacles!) his adversary, the notorious pirate Red Rackham, scourge of at least 5 of the 7 seas.

Happily, the publishers have preserved the British English, which contributes to the old-world charm of the series. The dialogue is literate and full of benign double entendres; and the narrative moves at such a pace that one has to slow down to savour the story, so that the 63 pages don't fly by. But, even if they should, there is always the sequel, "Red Rackham's Treasure" to look forward to.

I bought three different Tintin adventures so that my grandson would become acquainted with these delightful tales, which I discovered back in the fifties. I first met Tintin in the Netherlands, in the guise of Kuifje ('Cowlick', for his shock of unruly hair); I subsequently encountered him in French, German, and Italian. Tintin, in fact, serves as an ideal aid to learning a foreign language, since all the translations from the original French are so conversational and colloquial.

"The Secret of the Unicorn" may have originated in the 'forties, but its themes of the young hero's persistence on behalf of a friend in his quest for pirate's treasure--of good triumphing over evil--are timeless. Furthermore, the running jokes are just as funny as when I first read them. They still cause me to burst into laughter. And who could not use a little laughter during turbulent times, whether then or now?

A Sea Adventure Everyone Will Like

This is the first part, the second part is 'Red Rakham's Treasure'. This is also the series when Marlinspike Hall makes its appearance. The second part is also when Prof Cuthbert Calculus enters Tintin cast for the first time. This is a story every Tintin lover will cherish and other readers will also enjoy. Despite being more than half a century old the story has lost nothing of its charm and sense of fun.
The plot concerns miniature models of boats that bear a striking similarity to a boat in a portrait of one of Capt Haddock's ancestors. From there begins a tale of pirates, of a treasure, of theives after the same treasure, of three hundred year old rum, of our adventurers' attempts at getting to it. The story finally culminates in the Marlinspike Hall, with Capt Haddock being restored to what turns out to be his ancesteral home.
This is the first and perhaps the best of the three adventures Herge wrote that ran into two books. The others two book adventures are 'The Seven Crystal Balls' and 'Prisoners of the Sun', and 'Destination Moon' and 'Explorers on the Moon'.
All in all, an excellent comic book to read, anytime, anywhere.
