Volume 4
By Jessica
In this volume, Staz meets the Vampire Hunters (can't say too much without spoiling everything). This book is the climax of the Blood Lad story. It shows what it was all for. It also keeps some of it's humor you read in the other volumes.

The first entry of Sword Art Online is a good one.
By jen stansbury
I enjoyed the SAO anime during its first season and when I found a copy of the first novel at Barnes and Noble, I bought it without a second thought.

The novel is entirely chronicled from Kirito's POV, which gives a more indepth understanding of his personality and his feelings while he was trapped within SAO. Additionally, the mechanics of SAO are far more thoroughly explained and we get a more empathetic perspective on what it's like for a person to be trapped in a virtual world and how they learn to cope with it when it becomes their new 'reality'.

And just to inform those who are only privy to the anime: The first novel does not contain events such as the battle with Illfang, Kirito joining his first Guild, the safety zone murders, nor his meetings with Lisbeth, Silica and Yui. These tales appear in subsequent volumes as side-stories which expand further on Kirito's adventures in Aincrad.

Everything you know and love from the Aincrad arc, minus side stories and iffy character designs.
By Sebastian Fields
I got this in the mail today, and read it all during school today. There's a couple differences to the light novels and the anime. One major one is obviously the character designs. I don't know what "abec" was thinking, but I wasn't a fan at all. Characters like Klein, Agil, and Sachi look scary different. But there was some positives! Asuna got a lot more adorable, and I only liked Heathcliff's design because it wasn't that much different from the original. Now for the story. Yen Press threw the 2 volumes released into a big volume for the English release, and the price tells you that basically. This manga covers the first arc, Aincrad, or volumes 1 and 2 of the light novel series. This adaptation has almost everything the light novels have, but a lot of the side story stuff was cut. When Kirito first joins a guild (Sachi and all of those other unimportant people) that little bit is cut down A LOT, there is no Silica and Lisbeth, and the whole little thing with murder in the safe zone and whatnot isn't there either. And where Kirito first gets the title of "Beater", that part is, for some reason, skipped. There's probably a lot more missing, but anyone that has watched the anime or read the novels will know what is missing. Besides that, there is little tweaks in the main story but it's still the same tearful ending that I enjoy immensely. This manga was well worth the price just because the Aincrad arc was amazing and I love SAO in general. If you want the original light novel, April 22nd is when the 1st volume releases. Hope this helped!

SAO
By Emily
I haven't got all the way through it but I red 45 pages real quick, I was surprised how the format was for the story but the anime follows it (or so I can tell) fairly close to the book save for a few word changes/cuts/adds. Even though I watched the anime first and know what happens I still got this book in a sort of frenzy for SAO products and got the lanyard with it (which is awesome). Just for extra information this book is NOT a manga but does have a few pictures to set the scene and IS written in English; also it has great extra info that you kind of wondered "how does that work" when you were watching the anime that it explains in the book.

I would definitely suggest this to any of my friends that like anime/manga!

"I think they just want to hire younger people," his boss at Newsweek told him. Fifty years old and with a wife and two young kids, Dan was, in a word, screwed. Then an idea hit. Dan had long reported on Silicon Valley and the tech explosion. Why not join it? HubSpot, a Boston start-up, was flush with $100 million in venture capital. They offered Dan a pile of stock options for the vague role of "marketing fellow." What could go wrong?

HubSpotters were true believers: They were making the world a better place ... by selling email spam. The office vibe was frat house meets cult compound: The party began at four thirty on Friday and lasted well into the night; "shower pods" became hook-up dens; a push-up club met at noon in the lobby, while nearby, in the "content factory," Nerf gun fights raged. Groups went on "walking meetings," and Dan's absentee boss sent cryptic emails about employees who had "graduated" (read: been fired). In the middle of all this was Dan, exactly twice the age of the average HubSpot employee, and literally old enough to be the father of most of his co-workers, sitting at his desk on his bouncy-ball "chair."

Mixed in with Lyons's uproarious tale of his rise and fall at Hubspot is a trenchant analysis of the start-up world, a de facto conspiracy between those who start companies and those who fund them, a world where bad ideas are rewarded with hefty investments, where companies blow money lavishing perks on their post-collegiate workforces, and where everybody is trying to hang on just long enough to reach an IPO and cash out.

With a cast of characters that includes devilish angel investors, fad-chasing venture capitalists, entrepreneurs and "wantrapreneurs," bloggers and brogrammers, social climbers and sociopaths, Disrupted is a gripping and definitive account of life in the (second) tech bubble.

Review
New York Times bestseller
Wall Street Journal bestseller
San Francisco Chronicle bestseller

"Using his trademark wit and clear-eyed analysis, Dan Lyons has delivered a much-needed referendum on the current state of Silicon Valley. In wildly entertaining fashion, Disrupted explores the ways in which many technology companies have come to fool the public and themselves. Lyons has injected a dose of sanity into a world gone mad."―Ashlee Vance, New York Times-bestselling author of Elon Musk

"Dan 'Fake Steve' Lyons runs such a savage burn on his ex-employer, HubSpot, that the smoke can be seen clear across the country in Silicon Valley. Disrupted is fun, compulsively readable and just might tell us something important about the hypocrisy and cult-like fervor inside today's technology giants."―Brad Stone, New York Times-bestselling author of The Everything Store

"Dan Lyons goes deep inside a company that uses terms like 'world class marketing thought leaders' to show us how ridiculous, wasteful, and infantile tech start-ups like this can be. And best of all, Lyons does this with his trademark pejorative and hilarious tone."―Nick Bilton, New York Times technology columnist

"Troubling but funny ... [a] coolly observant book ... [with] a splendidly weird coda ... You couldn't have written a tastier ending, even for HBO."―Dwight Garner, New York Times

"Disrupted by Dan Lyons is the best book about Silicon Valley today.... Simultaneously hilarious and terrifying, Disrupted is an insider's look at a technology start-up from an outsider's perspective. Yet it's more than a chronicle of Lyons' tenure at one company, but a broader commentary on a business culture that often appears to be built on financial quicksand."―Los Angeles Times

"As the writer behind the satirical blog Fake Steve Jobs, [Lyons] could not have imagined a place so ripe for parody as HubSpot. Every detail of the hip office space, incompetent management, and delusional workforce described by Lyons in his hilarious and unsettling exposé is like something out of a scripted comedy (the author writes for HBO's Silicon Valley) ... An exacting, excoriating takedown of the current startup 'bubble' and the juvenile corporate culture it engenders."―Kirkus Reviews

"Scathingly funny .... Like the show 'Silicon Valley,' Disrupted nails the workings of spastic, hypocritical, delusional tech culture."―New York Post

"Laugh-out-loud funny."―Newsweek

"Read this book if you work or invest in tech and, in particular, tech startups. And not just for the tales of corporate intrigue, hypocrisy, and ridiculousness that have caused HubSpot and its allies to get so hot under their collective collar.... [Lyons] makes a strong case for how all of that young labor, when increasingly wrapped up into an over-arching 'corporate culture,' creates subtle age discrimination that these employees won't recognize for years to come. This not only is a real (albeit virtually ignored) issue at tech companies today, but is going to become a much larger one as digital natives continue to age."―Dan Primack, Fortune.com

"Hilarious and eye-opening."―Business Insider

"It would be incomplete to classify Disrupted as merely an Office Space-esque critique of Corporate America. It also serves as social commentary about the way that more senior employees are viewed and valued in a hyper-aggressive startup culture hell bent on an IPO. In other words, you will both laugh and think. I consumed the book in less than a day and highly recommend it to people curious about what could very well happen to them."―Phil Simon, The Huffington Post

"Disrupted provides an eye-opening and gut-busting account of the maddening world of startup excess, hubris and groupthink from the unique perspective of a prominent technology reporter and satirist who was inexplicably hired and given a front row seat to the lunacy."―Mashable

"A juicy read.... Disrupted is worth a read for its exploration of startup culture and its effect on labor....The book made me fearful of the fact that startup culture--from Google-style perks and zero work-life balance to corporate cheerleading and a cult-like devotion to the 'mission'--has become aspirational to many corporations. The ways in which the worst parts of startup culture benefit managers and investors while making workers disposable are particularly scary, and Lyons attacks that issue in a compelling way.... Disrupted is a foil to all those awful books that make sweeping generalizations about how to work with millennials."―Erin Griffith, Fortune.com

"Lyons finds the right company, if only for the raw material that he, a seasoned satirist, spins into gold.... But the book is not just a chronicle of the tech bubble's silly quirks.... Lyons uses the lens of his growing disillusionment to focus a broader critique of Silicon Valley."―Financial Times

"An often-delightful tour through startup culture... But there are parts of his book that should send shivers down the spine of anyone who uses the Internet."―Harvard Business Review

"The tech industry needs more writers like Lyons who are willing to probe its hyperbole, the ridiculous valuations, injustices and inconsistencies."―MarketWatch

"Hilarious... A must-read, not just in the real Silicon Valley but also on Wall Street... A highly entertaining, highly troubling tale of greed, graft, possible extortion, marketing nonsense, #content, incompetent bozos, investor hype, the impossibly wealthy and a man just looking to make his cut. That, folks, isn't just the Silicon Valley dream. It's the American dream."―Chris Taylor, Mashable ("Geek Book of the Week")

"This humorous and well-crafted memoir is part of a proud literary tradition: the disgruntled ex-employee tell-all. It's a genre that includes classic nonfiction accounts such as John DeLorean's On a Clear Day You Can See General Motors (detailing the carmaker's decline in the 1970s) and Michael Lewis's Liar's Poker (describing life at Salomon Brothers during the 1980s boom)."―Harvard Business Review

"Disrupted...offers an unvarnished insider's view of a tech startup.... That makes the book a must-read for anyone who works at a tech startup or wants to create one, in the same vein that books like One L became mandatory reading for soon-to-be law students.... A delightful portal into the world of a tech startup."―Lilly Rockwell, Austin American-Statesman

"[Lyons's] artful reporting from the inside makes for a funny and thoughtful account of the current culture surrounding technology startups. But in addition to entertainment, Lyons's book is also flush with analysis of those the entrepreneurs that founded these companies and the myriad firms that fund them."―The Atlantic

Sobering, Shocking and Hilarious Look at a Utopian Hellhole Rings True on Every Page
By Charlie White
This book affected me at a profound level. I was the oldest employee at various startups for a decade, and Dan Lyons accurately described the absurdity and frustration I encountered at all of them. He crafted his story so well that I felt transported back to that special hell of a fifty-something writer toiling away for years in a frat-house sweatshop with a "team" of ill-prepared (yet oh-so-special) snowflakes.

If you find yourself considering employment at a similar company, and if you're "old" (over 40 and certainly over 50), please read this book before you sign anything or accept any job offers. It's a cautionary tale that is the most perfect description of the current startup "culture" I've ever read. It made my blood boil while reading it, and at the same time I found myself laughing out loud throughout.

The book is a remarkable achievement, giving both prospective employees and investors a razor-sharp look inside a hellhole that seems so pleasant from its exterior. I loved this book and hope all my former, present and future colleagues take the time to read it.

Wildly entertaining AND important
By Social Science Reader
Disrupted not only wildly entertains; it also sheds light on some troubling issues in the startup and tech cultures.

Entertainment: Disrupted caused me to laugh out loud more often than any other book has ever caused me to laugh out loud. Would you expect less from a writer for the TV show Silicon Valley? Reading Disrupted is like binge-watching SV, only this company is a REAL place, which makes it even better.

Important social issues: Disrupted also raises a couple of troubling issues that surely extend far beyond the culture of this one company. The first is what appears to be a false promise of meaningful work to young people who desperately want to be doing meaningful work, but who are really just making a couple of people very, very wealthy. There's a smoke-and-mirrors quality to the ways in which employees are recruited, trained, treated, and then "graduated" (Hubspot's term for "fired"). They're told that the work they'll be doing is changing the world (when really what they're doing is online advertising), that Hubspot is more selective than Harvard (when this is actually a severe distortion of the data), and so on. The perks used to attract employees include an 'awesome!!!' candy wall, shower pods, beer, nerf gun battles, etc. You quickly get the sense that the work is empty, meaningless, even soulless -- and that what it's really about is making a couple of guys very, very rich (which I would be okay with IF the work truly were meaningful and IF the employees truly were being treated as individual humans, not as hypnotized sheep.)

Second, Dan is brave enough to bring up another important issue in startup culture: ageism. Older people are seen as having nothing to contribute. The age discrimination is actually shockingly overt. Imagine saying, "I want to run a company that really attracts people with blue eyes, because people with brown eyes just aren't creative." You'd (probably) never say something like that. But people who run this company openly say that about young people versus older people. I'm glad Dan is talking about it, because someone needed to start that conversation.

The most binge-able non-fiction book I've read all year.
By Maestro Y
"The real story," writes Lyons, "is about two founders and a handful of investors who are about to extract more than $1 billion from public markets, and how they pulled it off". That may certainly be the real story, and a harrowing one at that, but, fortunately, that is not the story Lyons tells in this book.

No, the story you get here is the 21-st century Alice-in-Wonderland story. Wonderland here is a startup creaking at the seams while being dragged kicking and screaming towards IPO. HubSpot is shrouded in a veneer of company patriotism and moral superiority that would make a soviet apparatchik green with envy.

Told with the brand of dark humor that made Lyons' Fake Steve Jobs so irresistible, it's hard to blame anyone for being unable to put it down.

How Night Came from the Sea: A Story from Brazil, by Mary-Joan Gerson

A Brazilian story with African roots, this book tells how an ancient African sea goddess brought the gift of night to the land of daylight. This story evokes the beauty, rather than the terror, of the night, and is also about finding peace and hope in a new land.

From Publishers Weekly
In sure-footed prose brushed with delicate poetry, Gerson retells a Brazilian story of how night was brought to earth from the sea. Before the arrival of darkness there was "only sunlight and brightness and heat." When a daughter of African goddess Iemanja leaves her ocean home to marry "a son of the earth people," she sorely misses the cool cover of darkness, the shady mantle of dusk. Only a bag of night from her mother's kingdom can restore her happiness, and soon the earth people come to know the beauty of night. In her vivid narrative Gerson paints the welcome approach of darkness with such feeling that the perfume of night flowers seems to hover in the air. Golembe's (illustrator of Gerson's Why the Sky Is Far Away ) monotypes use brilliant colors to present an exotic landscape, a dramatic backdrop for her jet-black figures endowed with the nobility of gods. The underlying calm of these outwardly exuberant compositions gracefully reflects the story's movement from lightness to the coming of night. Ages 4-8.

From School Library Journal
Grade 1-5-From Brazil with its long seacoast, hot days, and African ancestry comes this pourquoi tale explaining how night was born. As they did with Why the Sky Is Far Away (Little, 1992), Gerson and Golembe have produced a stunningly crafted book. Readers meet the daughter of the great African sea goddess lemanja and learn of her marriage to a mortal. The young woman loves her husband and his bright shimmering land even though it has no moonbeams, no starlight-no night. But eventually the sight of field workers stooped over day after hot day "hurt her eyes and her heart." She longs for the gifts of her mother's kingdom: the quiet and dark from the ocean's depths, and what follows explains how night came to the land. Golembe uses a kind of printmaking that resembles etching or lithography-the flat surface being Plexiglas on which oils are painted and tranferred to paper. When dry they can be reworked with pastels, gouache, or colored pencils. The result is brilliant, intense double-page spreads with white text on dark backgrounds, black on light. Bright colors are used effectively everywhere. In an author's note, Gerson explains the origin of her retelling and a little of the history of slavery and African religions in Brazil. (One must wonder, though, why the story includes a tiger, an animal not found in Brazil.) Handsomely, dramatically, and effectively illustrated and told, this story from "long, long ago" has both sensitivity and suspense. If picture-book illustrations can be works of art, this is a masterpiece.
Harriett Fargnoli, Great Neck Library, NY

From Booklist
Ages 4-8. What if there were no night? The daughter of the African sea goddess, Iemanj{ }a, leaves her home under the deep ocean and comes to live with her husband in the land of daylight. She loves her new home, but the unchanging brightness wearies her. Watching people work without rest "hurt her eyes and her heart." She longs for the cool shadows and dark quiet of her mother's kingdom,so Iemanj{ }a sends the gift of darkness to her daughter and the daylight people. In a number of source notes, Gerson describes Brazil's historical connection to Africa and explains that she has added the West African Iemanj{ }a to a retelling of a Brazilian fairy tale. It's a beautiful story, lyrically told, in some ways reminiscent of the myth of Persephone and the seasons, celebrating the necessary rhythm of evening and morning, shadow and light, rest and activity. The illustrations have the same glowing combination of painting and printmaking that Golembe used for Gerson's Why the Sky Is Far Away (1992), with bright tropical colors, bold jet-black figures, and a rhythmic composition that celebrates work and carnival as well as rest and darkness. How Night Came from the Sea: A story from Brazil
By A. Simien
I bought this book to read with my grandson. This story
was being read in school in his Reading class. Reading
the book at home helped his comprehension so well, his
grades went from "C" to "A" in 4th grade. Not just this
book. I purchased all books being read this year in his 4th class
to help my grandson with comprehension and content.
I have a 3rd grader, next year he will be in 4th grade, therefore,
he will read the same books - making this a very wise purchase.
I will then sell the books back to Amazon. Unfortunately, I do not know what books they will be reading in 5th grade. When I find out I will
continue with purchasing the books to be read at home.
I also loved the stories. All the books had a specific
meaning, further adding to my literary education.

A little lacking in details
By Tim Janson
Marvel Vehicles Owner’s Workshop Manual gives comic book fans an inside look at some of the most famous vehicles of the Marvel Comics Universe including the X-Men’s Blackbird; the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier; The Avengers Quinjet; The Punisher’s Battle Van; The Guardians of the Galaxy’s spaceship; The Ghost Rider’s Hellcycle, and many more.

Each listing provides a cutaway view of the vehicle noting the various features of each one such as weaponry, engines, defensive and surveillance gadgets, etc…Also included is the vehicle’s technical specs such as size, crew capacity, speed, type of propulsion and many more bits of data that are unique to each one. Author Alex Irvine also provides a history of each vehicle and information about its usage and engineering. One of the more outside-the-box inclusions is Thor’s rarely used chariot “Lightning Rider” which is pulled not by horses but by two huge goats known as Toothgrinder and Toothgnasher.

The book is a little repetitious in that it covers not only the Green Goblin’s glider but also the gliders used by Hobgoblin, Demogoblin, and Menace. There are also multiple Hellicarriers covered. But where is the Fantasticar? And what about the ship of Galactus? I think it also would have been cool to do these in the style of blueprints or technical drawings as has been done previously with books detailing Star Trek crafts.

fun for the comic fans out there.
By Douglas Grigg
First off I apologize for this review. I try to give enough info about a book, without ruining what you will find inside the covers. Now with this book its not a danger, but I wanted to make this fact clear and pastable for all book reviews.
I don't know what I was expecting, but I enjoyed the book. In fact let me say it showed comic vehicles I didn't remember until I got to them. The spidey sand buggy made me smile... Is it real? No but unless you are stupid you know that (its comic book vehicles after all). That being said it was fun to read. Oh and I recently saw a semi-serious article about a blimp with a pool that they wanted to build and fly...
