Three romantic rivals. One crowded house. Plenty of room for jealousy.

Laurel Thorpe, Belinda Rowe, and Scarlett Oliver share only two things; a love for the man they all married, Deacon Thorpe--a celebrity chef with an insatiable appetite for life--and a passionate dislike of one another. All three are remarkable, spirited women, but they couldn't be more different. Laurel: Deacon's high school sweetheart and an effortlessly beautiful social worker; Belinda: a high-maintenance Hollywood diva; and Scarlett: a sexy southern belle floating by on her family money and her fabulous looks. They've established a delicate understanding over the years--they avoid each other at all costs.

But their fragile detente threatens to come crashing down after Deacon's tragic death on his favorite place on earth: a ramshackle Nantucket summer cottage. Deacon's final wish was for his makeshift family to assemble on his beloved Nantucket to say good-bye. Begrudgingly, Laurel, Belinda, and Scarlett gather on the island as once again, as in each of their marriages, they're left to pick up Deacon's mess. Now they're trapped in the crowded cottage where they all made their own memories--a house that they now share in more ways than one--along with the children they raised with Deacon, and his best friend. Laurel, Belinda, and Scarlett each had an unbreakable bond with Deacon--and they all have secrets to hide.

Before the weekend is over, there are enough accusations, lies, tears, and drama to turn even the best of friends--let alone three women who married the same man--into adversaries. As his unlikely family says good-bye to the man who brought them together--for better or worse--will they be able to put aside their differences long enough to raise a glass in Deacon's honor?

Pass this one up
By PB
I like this author alot but I did not like this book. The plot centers on the sudden death of a famous chef, the disbursement of his ashes by his 3 ex wives at a Nantucket beach house he dearly loved. The ex wives arrive, with their children, and it goes down hill from there.

Each chapter is told by or about one character which makes this book "choppy". It would have been so much better if it had been written as a story that flowed, with conversations, instead of 1 character 1 chapter. I kept waiting for something to happen, but nothing did, I'm at a loss to even try to tell you what the plot was, since everyone converged on this beach house, then proceed to do nothing but talk and drink, go out back or to the end of the driveway to get cell service, there were no "thrilling" moments, no "heart wrenching" moments, no "ahh now I get it" moments, there was nothing , for example, one of the most exciting moments in the book is the women are trying to decide which bedroom they will be sleeping in , yes that's right people that was part of the book. IMHO, please pass this one by, move on to another book worth your money and time.

Incestuous Hodgepodge; A Mess
By a reader
I wish Elin Hilderbrand would stretch the writing time between books because the last three summer books plus the Holiday books are barely outlines never mind the detailed, expansive, and descriptive stories she used to write. Maybe if she had more time, the books would be cohesive.

The latest has no structure. We leap from different POVs, recipes, news articles, to more recipes so much that there isn't a coherent story. There are far too many characters who have nothing to do with Nantucket and do nothing to advance the plot - Hayes' girlfriend's family in the south Pacific, Belinda's 2 daughters and husband in KY, some family in Savannah, never mind a restaurant based in NYC during which what little action there is takes place. Lots of mentions of bars below 14th street in Manhattan. I read these books to be transported to Nantucket.

And boy, is this incestuous. There's one man who within 2 days has sexual encounters with 2 of the ex-wives, an ex-wife who might be considering her stepson as a lover, a widow who DOES want the boyfriend of her stepdaughter, etc.

Re-read some of her earlier books.

Disappointed
By Susan
I have always enjoyed spending time with Elin Hildebrand on her beloved island of Nantucket and looked forward to her latest book. Here's to Us missed the mark for me. The story of three vapid women who had been married to Deacon Thorpe, a celebrity chef, now deceased, did not engage me. The story, initially related by Thorpe as a child, intrigued me, and the reunion of his wives and children in the much loved Nantucket home held promise, but to quote an old saw, there was no meat on the bone.

The story had so many characters that none was properly developed. They became almost interchangeable, and I found myself bored by them. Missing was Elin Hildebrand's usual exuberance I had grown accustomed to when she painted such a vivid picture of the island that I felt as though I were making a return trip. The beachy nightlife, excellent restaurants, quaint shops and mouthwatering descriptions of lobster and clam rolls were missing. The story could have taken place anywhere.

Despite this misfire, I am already looking forward to Elin Hildebrand's next book. I have read every book she has written and do not expect to be disappointed again!
